The Funding Gap: Why Breakthrough Science Dies In The Lab

Governments fund 56 to 70 percent of project capital in the markets that matter, and almost nobody claims it. Here is how that money actually moves.

Two Islands, One Problem

The technologies that will define the next century are not stuck because the science failed. They are stuck between the people who invent them and the capital that could build them. In the markets we work in, governments fund between 56 and 70 percent of project capital. That money is published, allocated and almost entirely unclaimed.

What We Learned Building

We finance, patent and deploy deep technology. Two hundred distributed-energy systems across eleven countries taught us that the grant route is not bureaucratic noise — it is the most undervalued instrument on the cap table. Non-dilutive, and in most jurisdictions, ignored by founders who were told to raise equity instead.

The Playbook

Map the mandate before you map the product. Public money follows published policy, not good ideas. The European sewage-sludge rules bite between 2029 and 2032, which means plant operators are already looking for the machine that fits. Funding follows obligation.
